What are the symptoms of migraines?

Migraine symptoms typically occur in four stages. However, not everyone with migraines goes through all of the stages.

Prodrome

The prodrome stage begins about 24 hours before the headache. Symptoms may include food cravings, mood changes, or uncontrollable yawning.

Aura

The aura stage causes temporary nervous system disturbances such as visual changes, weakness, or pins and needles sensation. You may experience the aura stage before or during your headache.

Headache

Migraine headaches cause a throbbing sensation in one area of your head that may last for hours or days.

Postdrome

During the postdrome stage, which follows the headache, you may feel drained and exhausted.
